VR subtitles: language, timing and matching your video
A subtitle needs to match the video you are actually playing. The same release code can have different edits, multipart files or an opening sequence that changes the timing. A matching code is a starting point; it does not prove that every subtitle fits every copy.
Check the available language
Use the release page's subtitle information to check published language availability. A missing language is not proof that a translation is being prepared. Availability labels describe the published tracks; private processing and review are separate.
Hosted VRJAV subtitle content requires JAVonaut access. Sign in with the account that has access before downloading or attaching a hosted track. Language availability and catalog metadata remain publicly visible. Your own local subtitle files are separate from hosted site subtitles.
Match the source and part
- Confirm the release code and video edition.
- For multipart media, choose the track for the part you are playing. Do not apply a whole-release track to an arbitrary part without checking its timing.
- When a subtitle archive or manifest provides source, part or revision information, retain that association when importing it.
- Check a line near the beginning and another later in the video. A track that matches one opening line can still drift later.
Fix timing problems
If every line is early or late by the same amount, a subtitle offset may help if your player provides that control. If the mismatch grows over time, check whether you have a different cut or frame-rate conversion. A fixed offset usually cannot fix progressive drift.
If timing changes suddenly after a scene or part boundary, verify the edition and part again. Avoid editing an accepted original track just to fit a different video copy; keep any personal adjustment as a separate file.
If a track does not appear
- Confirm that subtitles are enabled and that a language or track has been selected.
- Check that the installed player supports the subtitle format you imported.
- For a hosted track, check account access and the network connection. A temporary service error is different from a missing language.
- If you changed accounts during a download, select the track again after signing in to the intended account.
- If subtitles appear in desktop playback but not in the headset, check the subtitle controls for the playback mode you are using.
Use the apps page for current player access, and the Javonaut page for hosted subtitle access. The VR formats guide explains the separate projection and stereo settings.
